Call to Action
Child in the Womb

Neighbors for Life is one of the most effective Minnesota pro-life organizations, working tirelessly to bring about a stronger pro-life Minnesota. We call upon all citizens of Minnesota, who care about the lives of unborn children, to regularly contact their state representatives and senators:

  • Let them know that you object to tax-funding of abortion in Minnesota,
  • that it violates your religious and/or moral beliefs,
  • that nothing in the Minnesota Constitution justifies abortion
  • that nothing in the Minnesota Constitution mandates public funding of abortion.
  • Ask them to call for House and Senate hearings on Doe v Gomez (1995 Minnesota Supreme Court ruling which mandates public funding of abortion)
  • Ask them to support the Neighbors for Life constitutional amendment (to end tax-funding of abortion) in the upcoming 2004 legislative session
  • Tell them that you will surely vote for this amendment if it gets on the 2004 ballot.

It is important to be persistent with politicians. A respectful, yet insistent monthly e-mail or letter or phone call can work wonders in encouraging pro-life legislators and swaying those on the fence.

Sample letter (or e-mail) to your legislator

Dear :

I wish to thank you for your fine work at the Minnesota Legislature. We are proud to have such a dedicated person representing our concerns and working toward a better and more just society.

I have a concern which I would like to raise to your attention. Minnesotans pay approximately $1,000,000/year for elective abortions. I am opposed to this abuse of our tax dollars, both on moral and political grounds. Minnesotans have not had the opportunity to decide in a referendum, whether or not they wish to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. Rather, 6 Minnesota Supreme Court justices decided against the will of the Minnesota Legislature that elective abortions would have to be funded by state tax monies (Doe v Gomez 1995).

I therefore ask you to call for hearings on Doe v Gomez in the 2004 Legislative session. I also ask you to help to get the Neighbors for Life constitutional amendment on the November 2004 ballot. I believe that the majority of Minnesotans will vote for this amendment to end tax-funding of abortion in Minnesota.

Thanks in advance for your attention to this most important matter. After all, children are our hope and future. We must not turn a blind eye and deaf ear to children being killed in the womb. We must end the tax-funding of abortion, and one day, abortion itself.

Sincerely,
